On the 28th June 2013, an Utusan reporter was not allowed to make a coverage of the Penang’s state assembly’s swearing-in ceremony. The incident happened at around 9:30 am.
The Utusan reporter, Mohd Firdaus Ismail said that the security guards refused to give him a pass to enter the state assembly building because Utusan reporters are not allowed to make a coverage of the ceremony. He added that the security guards said that the orders came from the upper hand.
Unsatisfied, the Utusan reporter made a protest in front of the state assembly building by holding up a placard with “transparency ends here” written on it.
So, this is freedom of press for the opposition government. For the record, this is not the first time the oppositions barred Utusan’s reporters from covering their event.
